---- — New summer music camp starts July 8

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is offering a new summer music camp for youth ages 12 to 18 called Amped Afternoons.

Beginning and experienced musicians will play, sing and rock together under the instruction of local musician and teacher Shawn Parrotte.

“We are thrilled to be working with Shawn Parrotte for ‘Amped’ Afternoons,” Janine Scherline, NCCCA executive director, said in a news release. “He is an active local musician and his experience will be sure to foster improved playing and songwriting skills for participants in a fun, relaxed and encouraging environment.”

Amped Afternoons will run over three weeklong sessions that have different themes. The week of July 8 through 13 will be centered on music from the 1960s, July 15 through 20 will concentrate on the 1980s, and the final week of July 22 to 27 will be focused on songwriting. At the end of each week, participants will have the opportunity to perform their pieces on Saturday for the local community.

The program will run Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Each weeklong session costs $100.

NCCCA seeking theater, piano teachers

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is looking for qualified and experienced artist teachers with backgrounds in theater and piano instruction who are interested in offering courses at the arts center.

Artist teachers are needed to provide interesting and valuable instruction, serving a wide variety of age groups, populations and experience levels.

The theater teacher would offer classes appropriate for youth ages 5 to 12 years old. The teacher will have the flexibility to design his or her program and give the classes on the weekends, on site at the NCCCA.

For piano teachers, the arts center provides a music studio suitable for private instruction. Instructors would have access to a baby grand piano and work with the NCCCA education coordinator to determine an instruction schedule.

Interested artist teachers should contact Jen Shutts, the interim education coordinator, at 563-1604 or info@plattsburgharts.org.
