KEESEVILLE — Village of Keeseville offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Independence Day.

Offices will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday.

Westport Town Offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday.

Altona Town Offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Independence Day.

State activates Flood Helpline

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has activated the NYS Flood Helpline to aid residents affected by widespread flooding across New York.

New Yorkers can call the helpline for assistance, including local contact information for the Red Cross and Salvation Army, health and safety tips, where to go to receive a tetanus shot, what to do in case of an oil spill or power outage, mental-health assistance and for other recovery needs.

Life threatening emergencies should be reserved for 911.

In this area, the only road closure that continues Tuesday was Route 9 from Route 73 to Route 9N between North Hudson and Elizabethtown.

Hydrants being flushed in city’s North End

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Fire Department will continue flushing hydrants today.

The streets affected, sometime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., will be Prospect, Tom Miller, Autumn Drive, Summer Hill, Meadowvale, Circle Grove, Spring Circle, Kelvin Lane, Jerry drive, Truman Court, Boynton Avenue, Beekman Street, Woodland Drive and Bailey Avenue ballpark.

Water in the system will be stirred up and may be cloudy or rust colored coming out of the faucet during the flushing. Residents are urged to avoid washing clothes or bathing during that time.

City refuse collection canceled on holiday Thursday

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Department of Public Works will not collect garbage on Thursday, July 4, due to the holiday.

Today and Friday, collections will be made as usual. Thursday’s pickups will be done on Friday.

Summer Safari starts Monday

PLATTSBURGH — For the past 26 years, SUNY Plattsburgh’s College Auxiliary Services has been striving to enrich summers for area kids through its Summer Safari program.

This year, beginning Monday, July 8, the program will offer a collection of creative outlets for youth, including opportunities for artistic expression, scientific experimentation and historical exploration.

There are new additions, like the week-long programs “An American Girl Adventure,” “Minecraft 101” and “Geo Adventure,” and long-standing programs like the three-week theater camp.

Conference Director Kate Chilton said more than 200 students participate in Summer Safari each year.
