Annual Kiss My Bass tournament slated for July 13

CHAZY — The Chazy Rod and Gun Club will be sponsoring its annual Kiss My Bass tournament July 13.

There will be cash prizes (one cash prize per person) for the top five bass by weight (large or small mouth). First place will be worth $150. 

Bass must be taken from Lake Champlain. 

Entry fee is $20 per person, $15 for under 16 and 65 and over. Register at the Weathercock Bar, Route 9, Chazy, or Happy Pike Snack Bar, 562 Lake Shore Drive, next to Monty’s Bay Marina, by July 12. Call 846-7990 or 846-3423 for details.

The tournament is from sunrise to 6 p.m. The weigh station is open 3 to 6 p.m. at the Happy Pike Snack Bar with awards to follow shortly after 6 p.m. 

Fly Fishing Festival set for July 13

KEENE VALLEY — The Mountaineer is excited to host the First Adirondack Fly Fishing Festival on Saturday, July 13.

The festival will give anglers of all abilities the chance to hone their skills and demo new equipment on local waters. Free ECHO rod demos, free casting clinics led by local guide Ken Kalil, and local fly tier demonstrations will take place all day at The Mountaineer from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. No registration is required for the free demos and clinics.

Those looking for more in-depth instruction can register for the all-day Fly Fishing School led by local guide and Federal of Fly Fishers Casting Instructor Stan Oliva. Oliva will cover the basics of equipment, fly selection and fishing knots. Half of the day will be spent in the classroom and half will be spent outside practicing casting techniques, including the overhead cast, false cast and roll cast. Pre-registration is required for the Fly Fishing School. The price for this full day of instruction is $100.
