New Garry Trudeau Winter Carnival button released

SARANAC LAKE — “Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau has released his button design for the 2013 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

Using the theme “Under the Sea,” Trudeau’s illustration shows “Doonesbury” character Zonker Harris dressed in blue trunks swimming underwater with a school of fish.

Trudeau, who was raised in Saranac Lake, has been creating the Winter Carnival button design since 1981. Learn more about “Doonesbury” at http://doonesbury.slate.com.

Buttons go on sale for $3 each this week in locations throughout the Village of Saranac Lake.

The next meeting of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the large group instruction room of Saranac Lake High School. After that, the meeting schedule is Jan. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 6 p.m. at the High School.

The 2013 Carnival will take place Feb. 1 to 10.

Chazy Town Offices set holiday schedule

CHAZY — Chazy Town Offices will be closed Dec. 24 to 26 due to the holiday.

The offices will reopen Dec. 27.

Foundation of CVPH drive wrapping up

PLATTSBURGH — The Foundation of CVPH is in the final two weeks of its annual campaign.

“If you are looking for a worthy cause to support that helps the health and well-being of North Country residents and keeps your money right here in our community, consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation of CVPH,” CVPH Director of Public Relations Michael Hildebran said in a news release.

People can donate online or mail contributions to the Foundation of CVPH, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

“You can make an unrestricted gift or if there is a department or program that you want to support, just so note how you want your gift spent on your check,” Hildebran said.
