Training set for Regional Volunteer Center

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Regional Volunteer Center, located at the United Way of the Adirondack Region Inc., has established an online volunteer resource center that serves Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton,Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.

There will be training on how organizations, agencies and municipalities can use the free volunteer match website. Also included in the training is a focus on volunteer recruitment. 

The training will take place at the Wild Center, 45 Museum Drive, Tupper Lake from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. A free lunch will be served while discussing the volunteer data base and volunteer recruitment strategies.

Scholarships available for seminar at fort

TICONDEROGA — Fort Ticonderoga has four scholarships are available for teachers to attend the third-annual “Material Matters: It’s in the Details” seminar set for Jan. 26 and 27, 2013.

This weekend event focuses on the material culture of the 18th century and is intended for collectors, re-enactors and people with a general interest in learning more about objects of the 18th century and what they reveal about history. 

“Material Matters” takes place in the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center at Fort Ti and is open by preregistration only. The scholarships are available for teachers at all grade levels.

Applications are due by Dec. 10. Successful applicants will receive free registration, two box lunches and an opportunity to dine with the presenters at a private dinner the Saturday evening of the seminar.

Non-teachers can register to attend “Material Matters” as well. The cost is $120 with signup before Dec. 14; $145 after that date.
