St. Peter’s Advent Festival set for Sunday

PLATTSBURGH — St. Peter’s Church hosts its annual Advent Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the Emmaus Room.

Advent candle sets and wreath-making materials will be provided. Other Advent crafts for children also available. A fun, family-friendly event for all, including children’s crafts and refreshments, according to a church news release. 

Peru church helps with hurricane relief

PERU — Peru Community Church recently sent 43 boxes of non-perishable food to the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Brick, N.J., to assist with Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Brick is located in Ocean County, next to the barrier islands that were devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Members of the Community Church contributed the majority of the food, with contributions also coming from the Peru and Plattsburgh communities at large. Monetary contributions were also sent to St. Paul’s Church for additional assistance.

Shipping boxes were contributed by Forrence Orchards and Swain’s Liquor Store, with shipping tape by Peru Hardware. The boxes were delivered, at no cost to the church, by United Parcel Express.

In addition, the Ladies Guild of Peru Community Church distributed 25 baskets of food for Thanksgiving to families within the Peru community. The baskets included turkey, stuffing, gravy, canned and fresh vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, margarine and brownie mix. Members of the church contributed to these items.

Candlelight service open to all denominations

MALONE — The North Country Church of Spiritualism will present a candlelight service called Light Up Your Heart for Christmas at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Malone Grange Hall, Raymond St.

“Spiritual light is available to everyone to accept for oneself, to send to heal another or to eliminate negativity,” a press release said. “Come join us in celebration of the light of God and quiet your mind to bring in peace. If your heart has been heavy with sadness, spend the evening in a very spiritual light of those who believe the light of the Holy Spirit can renew your spirit!”
