Underground Railroad Museum manager, visitor liaison named

AUSABLE CHASM — The North Star Underground Railroad Museum at Ausable Chasm has named Marlene Almodovar as the new museum manager and Charlie Crowningshield as special visitor liaison.

As museum manager, Almodovar, a Peru resident, is responsible for overall operations of the three-year-old museum, which also houses the Town of Chesterfield Heritage Center.

Crowningshield, a retired manager for Lake Champlain Transportation Co., will now take charge of enhancing visitors’ experiences at the museum.

The North Star Underground Railroad Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week from early May through October. Admission is free.


Adirondack Art Association moves location to Rt. 22

ESSEX — The Adirondack Art Association has moved to a new home on Route 22 in Essex, N.Y., between the Ferry Dock and the Old Dock Restaurant.

The first show of the season continues through the month of June. There will be three other shows this summer, each about a month long. 

If you are a legal resident or property owner in Essex, Warren, Clinton or Hamilton counties and 18 or older, you are eligible to be an exhibiting member of the AAA, a non-juried gallery where all artwork is welcome at the discretion of the board, a press release states.

The fee for artist annual membership is $80. A commission rate of 33 percent is taken from all sales. This fee will be reduced by 10 percent for core volunteers. All members with personal websites can link them to the website and Facebook page. Contact the gallery director to join at


NCCCA announces Summer Members Show in July

PLATTSBURGH — The call for entries is out for the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts Summer Member Show to be held June 20 to July 26.

Artists can submit works in any medium, format, style or theme. Artists can submit up to three works each.
