Family Fare: May 3, 2014

Wild Center to host Homeschool Day

TUPPER LAKE — The Wild Center has scheduled a day exclusively for homeschoolers Thursday, May 8, when the center will offer programs normally available to school groups.

“Live Animal Encounters,” “Otter Enrichments” and an assortment of feature films for all ages are scheduled. Special programs featuring Planet Adirondack are planned for pre-k to fourth grade (“Owl Moon”) and fifth grade and up (”What in the World?”).

Cost is $6 per student; one teacher per family is free. Other adults are $8.

Bookstore Plus plans May events

LAKE PLACID — The Bookstore Plus Book Club will at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the store.

The meeting will include discussion with of “Hidden” with the author, Catherine McKenzie, via Skype.

At 10 a.m. May 10, the store will host Second Saturday Storytime. Dancing will be celebrated with stories and a craft.

Indies First Storytime Day is slated for 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17. The focus will be on celebrating independent bookstores and Children’s Book Week with a special storytime led by author Amy Guglielmo. Guglielmo will read stories and have a craft project.

Award-winning author Jack Gantos will be signing copies of his books at the Bookstore Plus at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18.

Plattsburgh State Art Museum presents Girl Scout Day

PLATTSBURGH — Girl Scout troops are invited to the Plattsburgh State Art Museum for “Girl Scout Day” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.

The programs begin with a guided tour of the museum and are followed by hands-on art workshops on painting. These workshops are designed to coincide with and fulfill badge requirements. The program does not include badges.
