Tree Power deadline nears

ROUSES POINT — The deadline for Rouses Pointers to buy trees through the New York Power Authority and the New York State Nursery and Landscape Association is Tuesday.

The Tree Power Program offers a deal that lets purchasers buy one, get one free or at reduced cost, with the Power Authority providing the match for the full or partial cost of the second tree.

Trees are priced at $85 for 1.5-inch caliper or 4-to-5-foot tall with a second tree free; and $170 for 2.5-inch caliper or 8 to 10 foot in height with the second tree priced at $85.

Judge sentences man arrested in Tupper Lake

MALONE — A Mexican native was sentenced to state prison after a Franklin County jury convicted him of using someone else’s identification.

Francisco Carbajal, 36, who was most recently living in Lowville in Lewis County, was convicted of two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument during a February trial.

He was sentenced to 2 1/3 to seven years in prison recently by County Court Judge Robert G. Main Jr.

A Tupper Lake Village Police Department patrol pulled him over for failing to signal on Jan. 8, 2013, and found him with a Social Security card and permanent-resident card that belonged to someone else.

He also had $15,000 in cash on him.


Village of Champlain moves up May session

CHAMPLAIN — The Champlain Village Board’s regular meeting scheduled for Monday, May 12, has been rescheduled to 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5.

It takes place at the Village Office, 1104 Route 9 in Champlain and is open to the public.
