NCCC to host informationalopen house Saturday

SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College will host an informational open house for prospective students and their families from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Saranac Lake campus.

The first of its kind hosted by NCCC, it will offer brunch, a welcome address by NCCC President Steve Tyrell, campus tours, a concurrent Academic and Student Services Fair and opportunities for one-on-one conversations with faculty.

Panels for students include Meet the Faculty and Meet the Students —The Inside Scoop; among those for parents are Paying for College and Meet the Students — The Other Side of the Story.

Staff will also be available to assist with applications, admission, financial aid, registration, and payment questions.

RecruitNY thisweekend showcasesfire departments

ALBANY — April 26 and 27, it’s RecruitNY weekend at volunteer fire departments across New York state, including many around the North Country, with firehouse tours, demonstrations and other activities.

RecruitNY is designed to help increase volunteer membership, which has suffered in recent years due to various factors, including the state of the economy, a press release from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.

Firefighters will answer questions and tell visitors how to join their fire department.
