Work of local quilters exhibited

SACKETS HARBOR — Two Franklin County women will have quilts on exhibit at the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Beauty of the Byways Quilt Show on March 16, 17, 23 and 24.

On display is a nearly 9-foot quilt by Donna Hastings of North Bangor called “Winter Stars.”

“The colors of this quilt — made from two UFOs, quilters’ language for unfinished projects — remind me of the winter stars in the North Country sky,” Hastings said in a press release.

Also on exhibit is “Adirondack Beauty,” a 5 ½-foot quilt by Mary Moore of Burke.

“The Adirondacks are unique in their geology and the mountains demonstrate color variations. I have often been intrigued by the New York Beauty pattern and decided to combine the two for this quilt for the Great Lakes Seaway Trail show featuring byways,” Moore said in the release.

Debbie Bigness added the top quilting to each of the quilts.

“The Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Shows are designed to inspire people to travel the length of the National Scenic Byway to discover America’s cultural heritage so beautifully illustrated through quilts,” Quilt Show manager Lynette Lundy-Beck said in the release.

Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
