Scleroderma Walk/Run on Sunday

BEEKMANTOWN — The registration for Sunday’s fifth-annual Walk/Run for a Cure of Scleroderma is at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10:15 at Beekmantown Town Hall Park, 571 Spellman Road. 

There will be concession stands, a bake sale, raffles, face-painting and more.

Some proceeds go to the Scleroderma Foundation, and some money will help local people with medical bills and travel.

As well, a scleroderma support group meets from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at CVPH Medical Center’s auditorium A in Plattsburgh. The next meeting is on June 5.

Blood drives hosted around region

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Regional Blood Center is partnering with many businesses and organizations to hold numerous blood drives this month.

Here is the schedule: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, Essex County Department of Social Services; 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 5, Lake Placid Masonic Lodge; noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 5, Jeffords Steel; 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, Clinton County Government Center; 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 10, Clinton County Nursing Home; 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, Willsboro Fire Department; and 4 to 7 p.m.Tuesday, June 11, Brushton-Moira American Legion Post 939, in memory of Brooke Lyon.

Air Show proceeds to benefit hospice

BEEKMANTOWN — Plattsburgh Radio Aero Modelers are holding the 11th-annual Radio Controlled Air Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Memorial Field, 185 Rooney Road.

Area radio-control pilots will be flying a variety of aircrafts, and the truck track will also be running. Food and raffles will be available.

Proceeds benefit Hospice of the North Country.

Event planned to help cover cancer costs

PLATTSBURGH — The Eye Care for the Adirondacks staff is holding a benefit for coworker Gail Reyell from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the business’s parking lot at 450 Margaret St.

Reyell is undergoing treatment for stage-three follicular lymphoma. The fundraiser includes a yard sale, car wash, bottle drive and bake sale.

Proceeds raised will help Reyell cover travel expenses to and from treatments in Vermont and Illinois, time off without pay when/if that becomes necessary and co-pays to be accrued over the next several months. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off to Sharron Harmon at Eye Care for the Adirondacks, 450 Margaret St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Workshop teaches ways to cope with arthritis Tuesday

ELIZABETHTOWN — A free Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is being offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, starting June 11, at the Hand House, 8273 River St.

Attendees will learn ways to reduce their pain and improve flexibility with exercise.

Test-drive will raise funds for ECH

ELIZABETHTOWN — Egglefield Bros. Ford is bringing Ford Motor Company’s Drive 4 UR Community program to the North Country in an effort to raise up to $6,000 for Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the hospital for every person who test-drives a new Ford vehicle. The event will take place in the parking lot across from the hospital on Park Street in Elizabethtown.

Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license and email address. There is a limit of one test-drive per household. All test-drives will last about seven to 10 minutes.
