Citizen Preparedness training class set for Wednesday

LAKE PLACID — A session of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Citizen Preparedness Training Program is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Conference Center at Lake Placid.

State National Guard trainers and state and local emergency management officials will conduct the event, lasting two hours or so, in the Lussie Ballroom.

The program covers a broad range of emergency preparedness topics, including: developing a family emergency plan, stocking up on emergency supplies and registering for NY-Alert, the free statewide emergency alert system.

Participants receive a training certificate, a wallet-sized “Z-Card” with emergency preparedness information and a free Citizen Preparedness Starter Kit (one per family).

The package includes a first-aid kit, face mask, pocket radio with batteries, food bars, emergency blanket and other key items to help citizens in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

The state’s goal is to teach 100,000 New Yorkers during 2014; a session was held earlier in Plattsburgh.
