Candidates sought for SLCS Board vacancy

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Central School Board is soliciting interested candidates to fill an unexpired term that became vacant due to the resignation of a board member. 

The appointee will hold the seat until the next School Board election, to be held in May 2015.

Interested applicants must be qualified voters of the district: a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old and resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year.

Those interested in becoming a candidate are asked to submit a letter that includes relevant background information and reasons for wishing to serve on the School Board. It is due by 3 p.m. Friday, July 25, to District Clerk Chris Fransen, Saranac Lake Central School, 79 Canaras Avenue, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

ELCS Board expected to award roof contract

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will hold its annual reorganizational meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Conference Room, immediately followed by a regular meeting. 

It’s anticipated the board will go into a brief executive session at 6 p.m. to discuss negotiations, gather advice of counsel and discuss employment history of particular employees.

The board will reconvene in public session to: hold a public hearing on the Code of Conduct; consider the support-staff contract; adopt district policies pertaining to students, programs for students, smoking and other tobacco use on school premises; and accept and award a roofing bid.

Lake Placid parade results announced

LAKE PLACID —  Aubuchon Hardware took first place in the annual Fourth of July Gala Parade here with its float with an Adirondack camping theme with a rain effect “that wowed the judges,” a Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism press release said.
