Local dancers heading to Montreal competition

PLATTSBURGH — Five local dancers will be attending the North American Irish Dance Competition in Montreal on July 5.

Claire Benoit, Isabelle Girard, Jillian Kain, Sarah McNalley and Lexie Neale dance with the Champlain Valley School of Irish Dance in Plattsburgh and travel to train with their coach, Marie Short, in Montreal.

It is the school’s goal to bring the art of traditional Irish dancing to the North Country through culturally unique performances, according to a press release.

The school is scheduled to dance at the upcoming the Mayor’s Cup Festival on July 12, the Battle of Plattsburgh event at the Champlain Centre mall Sept. 7 and at the Downtown Children’s Fair on Sunday, Sept. 14.
