Winter Carnival Summer Gala fundraiser set for June 24

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee is reminding the community that the RSVP date for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Summer Gala fundraiser is June 24. 

The gala will be held at Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St., from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 11. Gala attendees will adorn elegant dress attire for a refined red carpet evening featuring dinner, open bar, dancing, live and silent auctions and more, according to a press release.

Cost is $75 per person (21 and over), and payment is required in advance.

 Essex Theatre Company announces 2014 season

ESSEX — The Essex Theatre Company will present Joe DiPietro’s family comedy “Over the River and Through the Woods” will kick off the 2014 season at 7 p.m. July 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 and 2 p.m. July 13 and 20 at the Masonic Lodge (next to the ferry dock).

The second production of the season is Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller’s musical revue “Smokey Joe’s Café,” the longest running revue in Broadway history with 2,036 performances, a press release states. The show will be co-presented with Adirondack Regional Theatre at 7 p.m. Aug. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Masonic Lodge.

Essex Theatre Company’s Barbecue Benefit will be presented at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Masonic Lodge. A Variety Show of song and dance will be part of the festivities.

PLATTSBURGH — City of Plattsburgh Historian John Krueger will host a walking tour of Plattsburgh’s Old Base at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21.
