---- — Barre, ballet classes offered for adult beginners
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is offering three adult beginner dance classes taught by Danielle Erb.
Classes, which started recently, include “Floor Barre/Stretch & Strengthen,” “Beginning Barre” and “Beginning Ballet.”
“Floor Barre/Stretch & Strengthen” concentrates on proper body alignment and muscle strength. Students focus on stretches and exercises, using the floor as a reference. Classes are from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Mondays and cost $7 each or $50 for 10 classes.
In “Beginning Barre,” Erb helps students learn or revisit the basics of ballet through practice exercises and stretches performed at the barre. Participants will work on proper alignment, balance and technique. Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays. The cost is $12 per class or $100 for 10 classes.
“Beginning Ballet” teaches basic ballet vocabulary and techniques, such as barre work, center work, traveling steps and combination work. The class is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and costs $12 per class or $100 for 10 classes.

Barbershop Society celebrates anniversary
PLATTSBURGH — The Barbershop Harmony Society celebrates its 75th anniversary today.
The Cumberland Bay Barbershop Chorus of Plattsburgh have belonged to the men’s singing society for more than 50 years, and City of Plattsburgh Mayor Donald Kasprzak recently issued a proclamation recognizing the milestone.
The local chapter will again be offering a free four-week a cappella singing workshop from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Tuesdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28, at the Northern Alliance Church, 7 Northern Road, Plattsburgh. The workshop will be conducted by William Verity, graduate of the Crane School of Music and choral director for the Plattsburgh City School District. CAP grant applications available
ELIZABETHTOWN — Applications are available for the 2013 Cultural Assistance Program grants through the Essex County Arts Council, formerly called the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks.
Arts, historical, preservation, library, museum or other nonprofit organizations providing cultural enrichment programs for Essex County residents may apply for project funding or general operating support. The organization must be a member of the Essex County Arts Council; membership forms are included in the application package. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, April 26.

Arts group awarded grant for theater program
KEENE VALLEY — East Branch Friends of the Arts recently received a $500 donation from Stewart’s Shops’ Holiday Match program.
The funds will help cover production costs for a weeklong intensive theater workshop/performance opportunity for area youth. The workshop is open to children ages 8 to 18 and will be led by theater artist Kathy Recchia (producer/director) and Deb Vanneman (music director) with student direction from Sam Balzac. The workshop culminates in a live theatrical musical performance.
Bluegrass, Old Time Music group to meet
TICONDEROGA — The Champlain Valley Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the Ticonderoga American Legion, 104 Montcalm St.
Everyone is invited. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish for the buffet.
