Support group for nursing moms meets Monday

PLATTSBURGH — La Leche League, a breast-feeding information and support group, meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Family Connections on U.S. Oval.

The group is for all women. Babies are also welcome.

Youth EquiDay event today at Miner Institute

CHAZY — Miner Institute’s annual Youth EquiDay event starts at 9 a.m. today in and around the institute’s horse barn at 1034 Miner Farm Road.

The free event is geared toward kids in 4-H or Pony Club, but it is open to everyone. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with some light refreshments. The program starts at 9:30 a.m. and goes until noon. 

“What is That?” is an investigation of items found in and around the stable. Participants will also learn how to evaluate the fitness and health of a horse using Body Condition Scoring. The Henneke Body Condition Scoring system will be practiced on a variety of Miner Morgan horses. Organizers will also follow up on horse judging from Youth EquiDay 2012 and judge a class of Morgan geldings.

Coat drive set to help those in need

MOOERS — The Mooers Junior Girl Scout Troop 4137 will be having a coat drive from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Mooers Fire Station on Route 11.

The group will be collecting new and used coats from the community to help others in the community who are in need.

Storytime program set for Nov. 9

LAKE PLACID — The Bookstore Plus, 2491 Main St., is hosting its Second Saturday Storytime program next at 10 a.m. Nov. 9. 

The group will celebrate “Ladybug Girl” with stories and a craft.
