PLATTSBURGH — The following employees have been named to positions at UFirst Federal Credit Union:
April Trombley has been promoted to lending supervisor/collection manager.
Trombley joined UFirst FCU in October 2003 as a member service representative. Since then, she has held many positions including assistant head teller, collections officer, lending specialist and lending coordinator. Now, in her new position, she will be in charge of supervising all lending and collections activities in all of the credit union’s branches.
In 2013, Trombley will be celebrating 10 years of service. In 1997, she received her associate’s degree in Criminology and in 2012 received a certificate in Paralegal Studies from the National Paralegal College. Kasey Kirk has been promoted to interim vice president of finance.
Kirk started with Northern Corridor Community FCU as operations manager in 2008. Then, once Northern Corridor Community FCU merged with UFirst FCU in October 2009, she was named Northern Tier operations manager and compliance officer. Then, Kirk was named branch manager of the Rouses Point branch.
Now, in her new position, Kirk will be responsible for directing and managing all practices and activities in the finance and accounting functions to ensure compliance including managing audits, accounting and recordkeeping activities. She became a Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist in 2009 and 2012. She became a Credit Union Compliance Expect in 2010.
In 2005, Kirk received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management with a minor in Business Analysis from Plattsburgh State University. In 2003, she received an associate degree in Business Administration from Clinton Community College.

Meghan McGee-Pelkey has been promoted to marketing and human resources assistant.
Pelkey joined UFirst FCU in October 2003 as a member service representative. Since then, she has moved into operations working with electronic clearing, online banking and bill paying. Now, in her new position, she will be providing assistance to the Marketing Department in all campaigns and promotions. In addition, McGee-Pelkey will be responsible for providing administrative support for matters pertaining to human resources that includes a range of administrative duties.
In 2013, she will be celebrating 10 years of service. In 1999, she received her associates degree from Clinton Community College.

LAKE PLACID — Mykonos Restaurant, located at 2289 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, will host the North Country Business Council Business After Hours mixer on March 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

PLATTSBURGH — Chamber Ski Day sponsored by the North Country Chamber of Commerce at Whiteface Mountain will be held Thursday, March 7.
Special Rates for this event include Ski All Day for $45. Participants may learn to ski or board for $80. This includes a lesson, rental and lower-mountain pass.
A free apres-ski party will be held in the lodge from 4 to 5:30 p.m. catered by Center Plate. Call the chamber at 563-1000 for more information.
Viking Ski & Cycle is offering free ski rentals to anyone attending Chamber Ski Day. Participants may stop by Viking on March 6 to pick up their gear.
All tickets must be purchased through the North Country Chamber by Tuesday. It is not necessary to be a member to attend.
TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce will host an open house with the North Country Small Business Development Center on Tuesday, March 12. Services provided by the North Country SBDC will be available at the chamber office typically on the second Tuesday of each month.
The open house will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The chamber office is located at 94 Montcalm Street, Suite 1, in downtown Ticonderoga.
In addition, the chamber has planned, in coordination with the center, two spring business seminars. Seminars are free for chamber members. On Tuesday, April 9, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., the Development Center will present “Hiring & Retaining The Right Employees.”
On Tuesday, May 14, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., a seminar titled “Turning Angry Customers Into Loyal Fans,” will be held at the chamber office. Refreshments are being sponsored and provide by Dunkin Donuts of Ticonderoga for both seminars.
Look for detailed information to be announced. In addition, the chamber and the center are planning two to three additional seminars and trainings for the fall of 2013.
Registration is required for all seminars, trainings and business talks.
ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Community Hospital Auxiliary is accepting registrations for its upcoming bowl-a-thon. The fundraising event is taking place at Willsboro Bowling Lanes on Saturday, March 23, from 1 to 6:00 pm.
Registration requires a $20 minimum donation and includes participation in two games, bowling shoes, eight tickets for the event’s prize raffle and a donation to the auxiliary. Participants who donate more than $20 will receive two extra raffle tickets for each additional $5 donated. People are encouraged to solicit sponsorships from friends, family, co-workers or local businesses to increase their donation.
Many local businesses have donated gift certificates or other prizes for the raffle.
“Our local businesses, as always, have been very generous by donating items,” said Christine Benedict, event organizer. “We have received some really nice prizes.”
The bowl-a-thon features a trivia contest taking place throughout the event. Participants will be asked to answer a series of random trivia questions; offering the opportunity to win more tickets that can be used for the raffle. Additional raffle tickets will be distributed for team spirit. Pizza will be available for purchase throughout the afternoon; and alcoholic beverages may be purchased directly from the bowling alley.
“Team scores at this bowl-a-thon don’t necessarily matter,” spokesperson Jane Hooper said. “It’s primarily for fun, and for a good cause.”
Community members are encouraged to organize teams of four to take part in the event. Individuals who register will be placed on a team.
“We’d love to have a number of teams register,” Benedict said. “Families, groups of friends, colleagues — anyone can organize a team. Local businesses may also want to sponsor a team..”
