Senior art show opens Friday

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is hosting an opening reception for “Encore,” an exhibition that features more than 100 works by senior artists, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, in the Main Gallery of the center.

“This group of artists not only represents a unique age-range, but also a variety of mediums and skill levels,” Shawna Armstrong, NCCCA graphics and gallery coordinator, said in a news release. “From beginners to life-long professionals, and with playful subject matters including clowns, boats, flowers and ducks, there is truly something for everyone at this show.”

Original artwork by about 40 Girl Scouts focusing on the theme of “Important Women throughout History,” in celebration of the Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary, will also be on display.

Artwork from the Girl Scouts will be created in a workshop held at the NCCCA, where several seniors from the “Encore” show will work with local troops to share their life experiences and encourage artistic expression.
