Fort Ti Author Series starts July 14
TICONDEROGA — Fort Ticonderoga’s 2013 Author Series will feature authors of recent works related to the 18th and 19th century history of the fort.
Each program will take place in the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center, with a book signing in the Museum Store to follow.
The series includes: Donald N. Hagist, author of “British Soldiers, American War: Voices of the American Revolution,” at 2 p.m. July 14; Thomas A. Chambers, author of “Memories of War: Visiting Battlegrounds and Bonefields in the Early American Republic,” at 11:30 a.m. July 21; Mark Bowie, author of “In Stoddard’s Footsteps: The Adirondacks Then & Now,” gives a presentation called “Night over the North Country” at 2 p.m. July 28; and Theodore Corbett, author of “No Turning Point: The Saratoga Campaign in Perspective,” at 2 p.m. Sept. 29.
Programs are included in the cost of admission; $17.50 for adults, $14 for seniors (62 and up), $8 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children ages 4 and under. Members of the Friends of Fort Ticonderoga and Ticonderoga Ambassador Pass holders are admitted at no cost.

Westport Library book sale starts July 4
WESTPORT — The Westport Library book sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, July 4 through 6. A first-view session is also offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.
A $15 donation per person is requested to attend the first view at the library’s 6 Harris Lane location. In addition to the first choice of books, first viewers can enjoy champagne, strawberries and music by Russ Bailey.
Special titles this year include a collection of military books, ranging in subject from Napoleon, the Civil War and world wars I and II. Many of these books are hard-to-find titles and include wonderful and detailed maps. Most prominent in the collection is “Cannae 1931” (first American printing) by Count Alfred von Schlieffen. The library is also proud to offer books on the 1936 Olympics and many selections on art, music, nature and the Adirondacks.
On July 6, the library will be open late in conjunction with the Town of Westport’s parade and fireworks celebration.

NCCCA hosting ‘Camp Boyfriend’ party
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is hosting a book party to celebrate the release of “Camp Boyfriend,” by local authors Joanne and Karen Rock, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15.
The camp-themed book party will feature food and activities for young adults ages 12 and up. Attendees of the book party will receive a signed copy of the book, a T-shirt and a bookmark. To create the camp atmosphere, the event will also feature crafts, games, s’mores and more.
Tickets to the book party are $20 and can be purchased at the arts center or by calling 563-1604. Space is limited to 40 participants.
The event will be held on the front lawn of the arts center at 23 Brinkerhoff St. The authors will open the party up to the public for a free book signing and reading at 7:30 p.m.
