Open house set for new Malone clinic

MALONE — An open house is set for Wednesday at the Community Health Center of the North Country clinic at 380 Creighton Road in the Malone Industrial Park.

The event, set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new building.

The clinic, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, is accepting patients with no insurance, those who are under insured and those on Medicaid.

It was created with a grant through the Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country and the State Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

Heart Walk to step off Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — It is expected a crowd of some 1,500 will gather for the American Heart Association’s annual My Heart. My Life Heart Walk on Saturday on the U.S. Oval and at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Department.

The family-friendly event raises money and awareness to fight America’s No. 1 killer, heart disease.

Highlights include: different walk courses — a leisurely 1 mile or more challenging 3 miles; health screenings; Kids Zone; and healthy snacks.

Gavin Terry, age 6 months, will be honored as the 2012 Heart Hero. Moments after birth, he underwent surgery for a balloon stint to help correct critical pulmonary stenosis, a press release said. Now he is thriving and will be joined by his team of family and friends at the walk.

Registration for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m., with a 10 a.m. start time.
