LPCA offering tumbling classes

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will host tumbling classes beginning Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the center’s Annex Building.

Classes, which are instructed by Donna Walsh, Mary Heverly, Janis Curtis Atkinson, Debbie Neill, will meet on Tuesdays for seven weeks. Children ages 2 to 12 years will be introduced to tumbling and basic gymnastic skills. The goal of the program is to develop strength, flexibility and coordination while simultaneously building self-confidence.

Classes will be offered in the following groups: Tots A, ages 2 to 3 ½ (must be accompanied by an adult), will meet from 1 to 1:45 p.m. with a course fee of $65. Tots B for ages 2 to 3 ½ will meet from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. with a course fee of $65. Tots B will be filled first, and Tots A will run only if Tots B is full. Kinder Gym is for children ages 3 ½ to 5 years from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. with a course fee of $75. Wiggle and Roll is geared for children ages 5 to 8 and will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. with a course fee of $75. Flips is presented for ages 8 to 12 years from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. with a course fee of $75.

Upcycling series for young adults set

SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Carousel and local artist Stephanie DeJoseph of La Mia Designs is offering a six-week workshop for young adults titled “The Art and Design of Transforming, A Series of Upcycling.” 

The workshop runs from 1 to 3 p.m Saturdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26; and Nov. 22 and 29, at 2 Depot St. in Saranac Lake. Themes include: designing a lampshade with repurposed materials; reformation of silverware; mixed-media wall hanging on barnwood; upcycling an old, tired piece of clothing (student should bring clothing); something new for your bedroom/transforming junk into art; and embellishing clothes, furniture, home accents and accessories (students should bring items to embellish).

The cost is $20 per person; registration and payment are due prior to the class, which includes materials unless otherwise noted. Registration for creative workshops can be made through La Mia Designs at least one day prior to the actual workshop.
