---- — Common Council meeting pushed up, set for tonight

PLATTSBURGH — ThePlattsburgh Common Council will take action on several items at a meeting being held tonight instead of Thursday due to the city day off on Friday.

Among them are a request from Carrie Baker to hold Kids Night Out at the City Recreation Center to benefit the Plattsburgh High School gymnastics team 5 to 8 p.m. May 17 and a request from Municipal Lighting Department Manager William Treacy to write off unpaid final bills for December 2011 in the amount of $1,054.87.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Reception next Tuesday for NCCC president

MALONE — A reception for North Country Community College President Dr. Steven Tyrell will be held Tuesday, April 2, in Malone to celebrate his pending inauguration.

The public is invited to the event, which is from 5 to 7 p.m. at Reshetkina Hall on the NCCC campus at 75 Williams St. in Malone.

The celebration will feature remarks from Hugh Hill, executive director of the Malone Chamber of Commerce; Mayor Todd LePine; and Andy McKee, coordinator of the Malone Tulloch campus.

Also, the evening includes the opening of “24,471 and counting …,” an art show of works by NCCC students, faculty and staff reflecting the number of days the college has been open and its future.

The inauguration is a State University of New York tradition held during a president’s first year, and the installation will be conducted by SUNY Chancellor Dr. Nancy Zimpher.

Tyrell was vice president for student affairs at Alfred State College before accepting the position at NCCC.

Campground on Port Henry agenda

PORT HENRY — The Port Henry Village Board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss the operations of the Champ RV Park/Campground for the 2013 season. 

The session will be held at the Village Hall, located at 4303 Main St. 

All board meetings are open to the public.
