Students to learn about State Legislature
PERU — The League of Women Voters has asked area state lawmakers to volunteer their time to educate and interact with students from area schools in Clinton and Essex counties so they can learn how the New York State Legislature in Albany works.
This program is presented through the eyes of Sen. Betty Little, Assemblywoman Janet Duprey and freshman Assemblyman Dan Stec. It will be held 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 26, at Peru Central High School.
This is also an awards program where two student delegates, chosen by their schools based on achievement, character and interest in government, will receive public recognition, letters of commendation and certificates signed by all three state legislators.
At the end of the morning, one delegate from Clinton County and one delegate from Essex County will be chosen by lottery to attend the Students Inside Albany event from April 14 to 17.
Students will have the opportunity to shadow both an assembly member and a state senator. This program is possible in part by donations from Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary and the Northeast Labor Council.
