P’burgh meeting on flood study set for March 11
PLATTSBURGH — A session set for 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Plattsburgh has been added to meetings coming up in Burlington and Montreal to invite public input on draft Plan of Study for the Identification of Measures to Mitigate Flooding and the Impacts of Flooding in the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain Watershed.
The Plattsburgh meeting will take place at Hampton Inn & Suites, 586 Route 3.
A previous notice had said the meeting would take place today, March 5, but that was incorrect.
Hosted by the International Lake Champlain-Richelieu River Work Group and attended by International Joint Commission Commissioner Dereth Glance, the meetings will provide an overview of the report, followed by an opportunity for comments from the audience.
The draft plan, initiated by the United States and Canada after catastrophic flooding of the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain in spring 2011, identifies the studies necessary to allow an evaluation of the causes and impacts of that flooding, as well as the studies necessary to develop appropriate mitigation solutions and recommendations.
Written comments may be submitted at the meetings, through the Work Group website or to: Stephanie Castle, U.S. co-secretary, 54 West Shore Road, Grand Isle, VT 05482, email firstname.lastname@example.org; or to Madeleine Papineau, U.S. Canada co-secretary, 801-1550 D’Estimauville Ave., Quebec, G1J 0C3, Canada, email email@example.com.
Comments received by March 18 will assist the Work Group in developing the final plan of study that will be submitted to the International Joint Commission by the end of the month.
