PLATTSBURGH — The Marketing and Entrepreneurship Department at SUNY Plattsburgh will be teaming up with Clarkson University’s Reh Center for Entrepreneurship to host the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition at Clarkson University’s Student Center March 29.
The contest is open to all students who are enrolled in North Country colleges or universities during the current academic year.
The top teams from each of the 10 regional competitions will be awarded $20,000 in funding and will be invited to compete for the grand prize at the statewide 2013 New York Business Plan Competition April 26 in Albany.
In all, more than 300 student-led teams are expected to compete in the regional and statewide competitions for more than $225,000 in available funding.
Students will be able to choose from the following six ventures: Biotechnology-Healthcare, Energy/Sustainability, Information Technology/Software, Nanotechnology/Advanced Technology, Products/Services and Social Entrepreneurship/-Non-Profit.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — For 26 years, the Adirondack North Country Association’s Buyer Days trade show has connected retailers with regional artisans from across upstate New York and parts of New England, making it easier for consumers to purchase local products.
The 2013 show will be taking place March 27-28 at the Saratoga Springs City Center in downtown Saratoga Springs.

Drawing buyers from gift shops, restaurants, museum shops, farm stands and other independent retail outlets, the show is a great opportunity for vendors to access new markets and for retailers to buy directly from artisans, meet the producers and learn the stories of their unique wares.
DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Federal Credit Union Board of Directors recently approved a $20,000 donation to the North Country Veterans Association.
Last year, the Credit Union donated $15,000 to the cause. The check was presented by CEO Randall Martin on Jan. 2.
PLATTSBURGH — Tickets are available for the North Country Chamber of Commerce’s 55th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast. Participants will find out who will be named Irishman of the year on March 18 at the SUNY Angell Center Ballroom.
Sponsored by Adirondack Bank, this event is always entertaining. Master of Ceremonies Kevin Killeen and a cast of characters will help start the morning with a smile. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. with plenty of Irish entertainment, ending with the announcement of the chamber’s Irishman of the Year Award.

PLATTSBURGH — Anika Fullum has successfully completed the Certified in Healthcare Compliance Examination thus earning the CHC designation, according to The Compliance Certification Board (CCB).
The examination, available locally five days a week, was released June 26, 2000. Since that date, more than 3,000 individuals have earned this professional credential.
Healthcare compliance is a relatively new industry, born out of the government’s crackdown on Medicare fraud. Compliance professionals come from a variety of backgrounds including coding, medical records, nursing, medical practice, law and government. Regardless of background, compliance professionals are tasked with assuring that health-care providers follow federal, state and local regulations that govern the delivery of healthcare.
CCB President Debbie Troklus said that the United States government constantly updates the laws and regulations surrounding Medicare to ensure proper billing and to eliminate fraud. “These new regulations demand professionals who both understand the new regulations and how to implement programs to ensure compliance within their companies,” she said
Founded by the Health Care Compliance Association in 1998, the Compliance Certification Board exists to develop criteria for the determination of competence in the practice of healthcare compliance at a variety of levels and to recognize individuals meeting these criteria.
