---- — UMC bishop visiting Malone this weekend

MALONE — The Rev. Bishop Mark Webb, resident bishop of the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, will visit Malone this weekend.

He will preach, offer a blessing and serve the Eucharist at a 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service on World Communion Day at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Webb was elected bishop in July 2012 and assigned two months later as Episcopal leader of the Upper New York Area, overseeing the spiritual lives of more than 182,000 members across 49 of the New York’s 62 counties.

Mission Center’s bag sale coming up

CHAMPLAIN — St. Mary’s Mission Center, 88 Oak St., is having a bag sale.

The center will supply 13-gallon kitchen garbage bags, and for $8 shoppers can fill them with gently used clothing and shoes.

The sale is from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 8, 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 and 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 12.

Sunday school starting up at Trinity Episcopal

PLATTSBURGH — Sunday school classes are starting up at Trinity Episcopal Church, 18 Trinity Place, at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Retreat to focus on ‘Rules of Discernment’

ELLENBURG CENTER — “Ignatian Retreat - Discernment of Spirits,” presented by the Rev. Jack Downs, will be held at Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer, 7270 Star Road on two upcoming consecutive weekends.

The sessions are from Oct. 18 to 20 and Oct. 25 to 27. They begin at 7 p.m. Fridays and end at noon on Sundays.

The time of prayer and learning will be based on St. Ignatius of Loyola’s “Rules for Discernment,” covering seven rules each weekend. The message is freedom from captivity to discouragement and deception in the spiritual life.

The cost is $60 per weekend and covers all food. Rooms are available for overnight guests on a first-come basis (for an extra $50 per weekend). Register by Oct. 7 with a $15 non-refundable deposit. Email or call 594-3253 to register.

Church of God hosting evangelist this weekend

PERU — The Peru Church of God will host meetings with Joseph Cohen, an evangelist, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

‘Trunk Treasures’ raises funds for Nicaragua mission

PLATTSBURGH — Fashion Exchange is partnering with the North Country Mission of Hope to raise funds to feed malnourished children through “Trunk Treasures” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

People are invited to bring their “treasures” in the trunk of their car to the Truman Avenue Plaza area. The cost is $10 per car to set up and sell your “trunk treasures.” Setup begins at 9:30 a.m.

There will also be two tents with local vendors and artists. Quiche and Crepe and Michigans Plus will be selling food items, and sales and giveaways will be happening plaza-wide.
