40 starving horses seized; donations sought for care

WESTPORT — Donations for the feeding and care of more than 40 starving horses are sought by the Essex County Animal Cruelty Task Force.

The horses were seized them from their owner, but officials have not yet revealed the name or any charges that may have been levied.

“Essex County, as required by law, accepted the responsibility for providing temporary shelter for the horses which were determined by independent veterinarians to be seriously neglected and in need of immediate feed and care,” Essex County Manager Dan Palmer said in a press release. “Our hope is to quickly restore these horses to good health.”

To find out more about donating, call Tam Mrose of the Animal Cruelty Task Force at 834-7849. Donation checks, made payable directly to the Essex County Treasurer’s Office, can be mailed to P.O. Box 217, Elizabethtown, NY 12932. Write Horse Care on the memo line.

Rouses Point Village Board to discuss insurance issues

ROUSES POINT — The Rouses Point Village Board will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. Monday at Halstead Hall, at the Rouses Point Civic Center, 39 Lake Street. 

The purpose is to meet with the village insurance broker to discuss upcoming insurance issues.

The meeting is open to the public.
