Faith Briefs: Sept. 20, 2013

---- — Fellowship Forum to address geomancy

PLATTSBURGH — Ivan McBeth and Fearn Lickfield will give an introductory talk on geomancy at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4 Palmer St.

Geomancy is spiritual ecology, a science that addresses relationships in the interdependent web of life.

“It is the science of communicating and consciously working with the Spirit of the Land. The health of the land directly affects everyone and everything. If our land is healthy and fully alive then everything on, about and over the land will be happy and healthy,” according to a press release.

Lawsuit over sign at mosque site resolved

NEW YORK (AP) — Owners of a lower Manhattan building that became a center of controversy over plans for a mosque have resolved a lawsuit claiming a clothing company took its sign down to distance itself from the uproar.

Court records filed this week show the case was closed after everyone involved agreed to drop it.

The building is two blocks from ground zero. The Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. leased the building until 2008.

Then 45 Park Place Partners LLC bought it. The building began to house Muslim prayers, and plans for a larger Islamic cultural center sparked debate.

Burlington Coat’s sign was removed in 2010.

Burlington Coat lawyer Steven Shore said Wednesday neither side paid anything in agreeing to end the case.

The building owners’ lawyer didn’t immediately return a phone call.
