SPEED Training program focuses on strength and power for athletes

SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack Health’s Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department is offering a summer strength training program for area high school athletes called SPEED Training, designed to build a base for training with a focus on proper technique to develop strength and power.

The SPEED (strong, powerful, explosive, energetic, dedicated) Training is for high school athletes ages 14 to 18.

The program will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center’s International Weight Room in Lake Placid. There will be a number of guest instructors from the training center to lend their expertise.

Times offered are noon to 1 p.m. and/or 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, June 9 through July 30. Depending on enrollment, sessions may be held at both times.

Cost is $339 for 16 sessions.

Ti Chamber to host Health Insurance sessions

TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce will host monthly Health Insurance Open Houses for members and the Ticonderoga area in coordination with the Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce. 

The Open Houses will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in Suite 1 of the Ticonderoga Chamber office, located at 94 Montcalm St. in downtown Ticonderoga.

Adirondack Health offers Smooth Stride Runners’ Clinic

SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack Health has announced Smooth Stride Runners’ Clinics for April 3 and May 15 at the Adirondack Health Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine facility in Lake Placid.

Included will be: full running assessment by trained staff; biomechanical screening and footwear recommendations for issues that may lead to injury and lost training time; computerized running gait analysis using DartFish video software; functional movement assessment with corrective exercises; nutritional screening; and running physiology with training guidelines.
