Air Base Museum to host Oral History Night

PLATTSBURGH — Work continues gathering artifacts and memorabilia for the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Museum slated to open in June.

Those include the memories of those associated with the facility and the U.S. Air Force, and an event aiming to do that is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in the War of 1812 Museum’s Press Republican Theater at 31 Washington Road on the former Old Base.

“It’s very informal,” said Dave Deno, museum manager. “People can come in and talk about experiences they had in the Air Force. It doesn’t have to necessarily be with this base. It can be any experience.”

Officer, enlisted and civilian personnel and Air Force family members are welcome to come and share their stories.

“I was getting all these wonderful stories from the people who served here, and I just wanted to give them an opportunity to share them with other people and have them recorded for future generations,” Deno said.

“It’s audio recording. If they don’t wanted it recorded, I just turn the recorder off. We’re going to try it this one day, and we will see how it goes.”

The museum’s grand opening is June 7. For more information, call the Battle of Plattsburgh Association at 566-1814 or email: manager@battleofplattsburgh.org.
