EquiDay to be held at Miner Institute 

CHAZY — Miner Institute’s annual EquiDay event will be held Saturday, March 22. This event is free and open to the public. EquiDay is a daylong symposium on horse topics and a mini-expo to launch the spring season in the North Country. Registration begins at 9 a.m.; the speaker program starts at 9:30. 

Dr. Betsy Greene, an equine extension specialist with the University of Vermont, will begin the day discussing how to keep your horse and barn safe from diseases. Sue McDonough, with the New York State Humane Association, will talk about Investigating Animal Cruelty.

Miner Institute Equine Manager Karen Lassell will talk about current equine issues, and Christine Boudreau, of the Cowboy Sports Association and Single Action Shooting Society, will give a presentation on cowboy mounted shooting. Adirondack Tack of Plattsburgh will put on its annual fashion show and describe outfits for various disciplines. A door prize drawing will be held at 3 p.m.

Poultry Day to be held in Jay at Ward Lumber

JAY — Ward Lumber is hosting a free Poultry Day at their Jay store location with two speakers on Saturday, March 29, from 2 to 6 p.m. for anyone who is interested in raising chickens. 

Topics to be covered by two speakers are pasture-raised poultry including free-range or pasture-raised, family or profit, processing, breed selection and source, pasture shelter, design/selection, feed and water, predators and marketing. Additional topics will be about income poultry layers and broilers including cost analysis, breed selection, diet requirements, management practices, air and water quality and turkeys.
