Medal received

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid Spirits’ newest product, Blue Line Gin, has won a silver medal at the New York State Wine and Grape Foundation annual judging event in Watkins Glen.

“We were thrilled to achieve a silver medal in our first contest entry,” said Ann Stillman O’Leary, president of Lake Placid Spirits. “Blue Line Gin features a local Adirondack botanical ingredient, Northern White Pine, that results in a very smooth and refreshing gin.”

By law, gin must have juniper berries and the locally harvested additional botanical to the juniper is Northern White Pine.

“We harvest the new spring growth, which is filled with sweet chlorophyll and distill the White Pine essence along with the juniper and other classic gin botanicals for a very smooth and distinct new American gin,” she said.

“Gin production requires a few extra steps prior to distillation where we soak our botanical ingredients and combine these liquid elements in our 1,000-liter copper column pot still, said Twig McGlynn, distiller at Lake Placid Spirits. “Our direct-fired distillation process takes over 13 hours for each batch of Blue Line Gin and the scents and aroma that come individually as the gin spirits pull over during the process is amazing.”

The New York State Wine and Grape Foundation is a 28-year-old not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the wine and spirits industry in New York State. In 2013, more than $3.7 billion was generated by this industry and over 5 million tourists visited New York State due to viniculture activities and events.

Lake Placid Spirits LLC is a 5-year-old micro-distillery making 46 Peaks Potato Vodka, P3 Placid Vodka filtered with Adirondack Garnet and Alpenglow Cranberry Maple flavored vodka, which uses locally sourced cranberries from the Deer River Cranberry farm in Brasher Falls and maple syrup from the Uihlein Forest Maple Station of Lake Placid.
