Northern Adirondack Vocal Ensemble concerts rescheduled

PLATTSBURGH — The Northern Adirondack Vocal Ensemble will give two performances of a “Festival of Lessons and Carols,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid.

The event was rescheduled due to hazardous weather conditions on the original dates.

War of 1812 Museum sets holiday hours through Jan. 7

PLATTSBURGH — The War of 1812 Museum operated by the Battle of Plattsburgh Association will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Saturday.

In recognition of New Year’s and to complete year-end inventory, the museum will be closed Sunday, Dec. 28, through Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The museum will reopen for regular business hours Jan. 8.

NCCCA closed through Jan. 1

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts will be closed through Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Regular business hours will resume Jan. 2.

Pendragon Theatre to hold auditions for summer season

SARANAC LAKE — The Pendragon Theatre has scheduled its auditions for the 2014 summer season for Jan. 4 and 5, with call backs Jan. 5 if needed.

Actors may audition for more than one play and will be asked to read scenes from the plays. Sides and a breakdown of the roles will be available at the theater after Dec. 25.

Audition times are: “Harvey,” 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 4; “Red,” 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 4; “Man of La Mancha,” 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 4; “The Little Prince,” noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 5; and “Death of a Salesman,” 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 5.

Pendragon looking for Young Playwrights submissions

SARANAC LAKE — The Pendragon Theatre is seeking entries for its Young Playwrights’ Festival, set for April 5 and 6.

Deadline for submissions has been extended to Feb. 1.

Young playwrights across the Adirondack Park are being asked to submit original one-act plays and musicals to be adjudicated by the Pendragon team for a chance to be presented on a professional stage. In order to be eligible, plays must be between 10 and 30 pages long, and can be on the subject of the writer’s choosing. Co-writing with other students is allowed. There are no fees to submit, and up to three plays per playwright/playwrighting team may be submitted. Pendragon will contact festival competition winners in mid-February.

Local author Joe Rector’s new book out Jan. 1

PLATTSBURGH — Joe Rector’s new novel “The Ruby Seat” will be available online and in stores Jan. 1.

The book, set in the Adirondacks, is being published nationally online and signed copies will be available at The Corner-Stone Bookshop and the new Lake City Bookstore.
