PLATTSBURGH — North Country Chevy Dealers (NCCD), thanks to their partnership with Puppets in Education (PiE), a non-profit troupe based in Burlington, 18 schools located in Chevy dealer districts in New Hampshire, New York and Vermont, will receive a full day of free presentations for students in grades K-8.

“The North Country Chevy Dealers are proud to be a part of bringing Puppets in Education to our local schools,” said Bob Cody, NCCD president. “Puppets in Education does an excellent job communicating with the children in our communities, helping students express how they feel about the challenges they face.”

This partnership will compliment and fill a great need in school curriculums. According to Deb W. Lyons, PiE’s executive director, “The response has been tremendously positive. Schools are excited to expand their curriculum focus with messages delivered in an engaging and interactive format. Our collaboration with NCCD supports children by seeking to prevent problems before they happen, while providing answers and help for issues that are personally affecting students.”

In addition, North Country Chevy Dealers voted to give each school a set of 10 hand puppets that can be used for ongoing education and social skill practice.

“The puppets help teach important communication and safety skills that allow students to become better learners and friends,”  said Dan Bokan from Shearer Chevrolet in South Burlington. “We’re excited to promote the Golden Rule and to help children navigate today’s complex social world.”

Presentations will take place from March to June, 2014, with schools choosing topics based on their individual needs. PiE is in its 32nd year serving more than 10,000 children and adults annually. PiE addresses many societal concerns including bullying, abuse, cultural diversity, autism, childhood obesity, mental health, drug use and other issues.
