Spelling Bee open to all fourth-graders

CHATEAUGAY — Literacy Volunteers will hold a fourth-grade Spelling Bee at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Chateaugay Town Hall Theater, 191 E. Main St.

The event will feature teams of fourth-graders, consisting of three members per team.

The pronouncer will pronounce the word, give a definition, use it in a sentence and pronounce it once more. Team members may consult and collaborate on the spelling of the word, and a team member will spell the word. Complete rules will be given to all participants.

The event is open to any fourth-grade student. For more information or to register, call 483-9366.

Pumpkin-bobbing event at YMCA

PLATTSBURGH — Children ages 3 to 14 are invited to the Plattsburgh YMCA’s annual Bobbing for Pumpkins event on Sunday.

Children are able to swim in the pool, which will be filled with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. After choosing a pumpkin, children are encouraged to paint, decorate and keep them.

Children ages 3 to 5 swim from 12:30 to 1 p.m. or 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.; children ages 6 to 8 swim from 2 to 2:30 p.m.; and children ages 9 to 14 swim from 2:45 until 3:15 p.m.

Members pay a fee of $5, and non-members pay $7 per child.

Refreshments will be provided following event in gymnasium.

Halloween event planned in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — The Whiteface Range Hall, located behind the Little Supermarket, is hosting Halloween at the Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The indoor event will consist of more than 50 booths sponsored by individuals, businesses and organizations. Trick-or-treaters can pick up free treats and loot in a fun and safe environment.

Chazy library’s story time on Nov. 3

CHAZY — Story time for children ages 3 to 8 will be held at the Chazy Public Library, 1329 Fiske Road, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Skippyjon Jones is a Siamese cat whose head is too big for his body, ears are too big for his head and imagination is too big for both. The group will read some of his adventures, do a craft and some activities.
