Pack Basket Class offered at museum

PLATTSBURGH — The War of 1812 Museum operated by the Battle of Plattsburgh Association will be holding an Adirondack Pack Basket Class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Press-Republican Theatre.

Sandy Muller and Bud Ziolkowski of Clear Creek Weavers in Saranac Lake will be instructing the class. The two are self-taught basket makers who specialize in the splint style of weaving. Foremost in their repertoire is the Adirondack Pack Basket.

The class cost is $80 for a full-size 21-inch basket or $70 for the 16-inch basket. This cost includes all the materials and instruction on making the pack basket. The harness for the basket costs $20 for the large and $14 for the small. The instructor will have harnesses available at the class. Bring a bagged lunch and beverage.

Tthose interested are asked to make reservations in advance with a $25 deposit. Cancellation of reservation must be made by Oct. 20 a deposit refund. To make reservations or for more information on this program, call 566-1814 or email manager@battleofplattsburgh.org.

Winter Farmers Market moves to Saturdays

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh’s indoor winter Farmers Market opens began Oct. 20 and will continue 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 22.

The market has started its third season at the City Recreation Department.  At the market consumers can find fall vegetables and salad greens, grass-fed meats, farmstead goat cheese, fresh baked goods including gluten-free, handmade candies, honey and maple syrup, jams and preserves and natural skin care products.

Vendors this year include Asgaard Farm and Dairy with farmstead goat cheeses, goat milk soap, and grass-fed beef and pork; Ben Wever Farm with grass-fed beef, lamb, turkey and eggs; DeMilo Natural Skin Care products; Parker Family Maple Farm with maple syrup, maple cream, maple candy and gift baskets; Rehoboth Homestead with organically-grown vegetables as well as honey and pastured chicken, duck and eggs; Sweet Abandon with handmade candies; and The Skinny Baker with pastries, breads and jams.
