Open house Aug. 10 at Miner Institute 

CHAZY — Visitors can learn about the research, education and demonstration programs at the Miner Institute’s open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

Attendees will learn about the history of agriculture at the Heart’s Delight Farm Heritage Exhibit and see a modern dairy and equine farm in action.

The free, family-friendly event will feature wagon rides around the institute, equine demonstrations, interactive displays and samples of local agriculture products. Miner Institute staff and summer interns will be available to answer questions about current agriculture practices and demonstrate some of the activities that take place at Miner on a daily basis. Miner horses will perform demonstrations with equine management interns at 1 and 3 p.m.

Wine Tour highlights area vineyards 

PLATTSBURGH — The fourth-annual Adirondack Coast Summer Wine Tour is from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 and 11.

The Adirondack Coast wine trail travels 66 miles through farmland, small towns and Plattsburgh, linking seven locations. Each vineyard and cidery will offer unique tastings and experiences that are all included with the purchase of a passport ticket. The passport is $12 and includes one free Adirondack Coast Wine Trail souvenir wine glass and tastings at each participating location. 

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy: local artists and crafters exhibiting at Elfs Farm, Winery and Cider Mill; cheese and chocolate wine pairings at the Champlain Wine Company; light Italian fare with a strolling violinist at Amazing Grace Vineyard and Winery; a dessert pairing at Vesco Ridge Vineyards; self-guided vineyard tours at Stonehouse Vineyard; wagon-guided vineyard tours at Hid-in-Pines Vineyard; and pulled-pork sliders made with hard cider at Everett Orchards Farm Market and Cidery.

Ti Garden Club fundraiser Aug. 15

HAGUE — The Carillon Garden Club of Ticonderoga will have its annual luncheon and Card and Game Party at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Hague Community Center on Route 8.

The annual event is a major fundraiser for the club. Funds raised support a youth scholarship to Camp Colby as well as beautification projects in Ticonderoga and Hague.

Raffle items will be available as well as many door prizes. Tickets are $20 per person and are available from Garden Club members or by calling Peggy Secone, the reservation chairperson, at 585-9071. Reservations are due by Monday, Aug. 12.
