Town of Plattsburgh open swim continues
PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department continues to sponsor Open Family Swim at the CVPH Wellness Center, 295 New York Road on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base every Friday evening, currently from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Beginning Dec. 12, the times will change to 7 to 9 p.m. These sessions are not only for children but are open to persons of all ages not in diapers.

There is a charge of $1 per person for each session. The maximum charge for a family is $4. Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times. Participants have use of the locker rooms, but everyone is responsible for bringing his or her own towel. It is recommended that water shoes be worn.

For more information, call the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Office at 562-6860 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

'Polar Express' at the library
PLATTSBURGH — There will be a Polar Express Bedtime Storytime at Plattsburgh Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. Children of all ages are welcome to come dress in pajamas with their favorite teddy bear in tow to hear a reading of the holiday classic "The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg.

There will be songs, some old some new, to sing and Christmas finger plays to learn with cocoa and cookies served by the Friends of the Library.

Retreat to host mothers and daughters
SARANAC LAKE — Northern Adirondack Planned Parenthood is sponsoring the Cyndi Topnick Mother/Daughter retreat from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in the John Black Room at the Saranac Laboratory in Saranac Lake. The retreat aims to improve communication about sexuality between mothers and their daughters ages 9 through 12 and to help the daughters understand the changes of puberty and the responsibilities of womanhood.

The 2008 Mother/Daughter Retreat is made possible by a grant from the Glenn & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park, and by an Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Community Health Award.

The cost is $5 per mother/daughter pair and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and snacks, a resource book, brochures, and gift bag. To register or obtain additional information, call 825-6277, Ext. 104. Space is limited. Register by Dec. 8.
