Art auction to
help students

PLATTSBURGH — Student artists from Plattsburgh State have donated work to an auction designed to raise money for student art scholarships set for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Myers Fine Arts Building lobby.

This event is important to students who often have to scramble to make ends meet, said Professor Diane Fine, who organized the auction with help from students.

"Our students work so hard. Most work one or two jobs in addition to going to school. Scholarships can be a big help," said Fine.

Works up for auction will range from photography to ceramics and beyond, with bids starting at $5 per item.

The organizers encourage students and the general public to attend. Live music and refreshments will be served.

Internet safety forum set
PLATTSBURGH — An Internet safety forum will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Plattsburgh High School.

Sponsored by the PHS Community School Organization in conjunction with PHS, it will be presented by Jay Minor of the New York State Police Computer Crime Unit: Northern Region.

All interested parents are encouraged to attend, a press release said. Free childcare services will be provided with participation from the PHS Key Club, Honor Society and girls basketball team.

Refreshments will be available.

For more information, PHS Community School Organization President Marla Wolkowicz at 569-8638 or via e-mail: zipporah6@msn.com.

Tree lighting planned
PLATTSBURGH — A tree-lighting ceremony will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at North Country Cultural Center for the Arts.

The free family style celebration at the center's new home in the former Federal Building, Brinkerhoff Street, Plattsburgh, will include gift making and cookie decorating for kids, hot cocoa, storytelling and songs by Stan Ransom and caroling by area school choirs and musicians.

Local authors will sign their books, and the holiday gift shop will be open.
