Chateaugay School vote set for today
CHATEAUGAY — Residents of Chateaugay Central School District will vote today on a proposed $8.8 million capital-improvement project.

Polls are open from 1 to 9 p.m. in the school auditorium.

State aid, incentive aid and $540,000 in funds from a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement with Noble Environmental Power will pay for the project with no cost to local taxpayers.

The proposal calls for the construction of classroom space for pre-kindergarten students, a new elementary gymnasium, new ceiling tiles and lighting, a new roof, window replacement and other energy-efficiency upgrades.

The changes, if approved, are expected to come in two phases, with the first work on the roof starting in the summer of 2010.

Holiday food basket and toy drive planned
JAY— The towns of Jay and Black Brook, in conjunction with the M&M Diner, are once again reaching out for donations for the Annual Holiday Food Basket and Toy Drive for local families in need.

Westport SPCA has holiday program
WESTPORT — The North Country SPCA in Westport is participating in the national Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays program.

Across the country, more than 13,000 pet-rescue organizations are trying to empty their kennels for Christmas, encouraging members of the public to invite a pet home for the holidays.

The North Country SPCA will answer questions about the program for people interested in making this Christmas a happy holiday for a pet in need. Call 962-8604, or check online at www.NCSPCA.org.

North Country SPCA will provide all needed supplies. The shelter has an average population of 450 adoptable dogs and cats each year. All of its pets can be seen online at www.petfinder.com.

The goal is to have each of these pets into a home by noon on Dec. 20.
