School Board schedules meeting

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the conference room.

The public is welcome.
Akwesasne veterans to be honored
AKWESASNE — The U.S. military veterans of Akwesasne will be honored at a ceremony on Veterans Day at the St. Regis Mohawk School on Church Street.

This is part of a special program originally developed when former New York Gov. George Pataki signed legislation granting high-school diplomas to all students who left school before graduation to serve in the military during World War II. The program has since been expanded to include vets from the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

The veterans whose education was interrupted by military service will be awarded high school diplomas in recognition of their service to their country and the sacrifices they made.

The event will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday and will include refreshments. About 40 veterans are expected to attend, along with their family members.

Border stations move to winter hours
CHURUBUSCO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canadian Border Services Agency have adjusted the hours at the Border Inspection Stations at Churubusco, N.Y./Franklin Center, Quebec, and Cannons Corners, N.Y./Cannons Corners, Quebec.

The winter schedule, now in effect, is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 30, 2010.
