Meadowbrook block party set

PLATTSBURGH -- Meadowbrook Healthcare will host its seventh-annual block party for the local community from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the front parking area of the nursing home on Prospect Street in Plattsburgh.

There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon with a summer appearance by the "Singing Santa," Ron Wood. The band Flashback will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a traveling petting zoo and pony rides, festival-style games, a bounce castle, an antique fire truck display, clowns and more, all free.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at the event.

Bingo Palace to host Seniorama

AKWESASNE -- The annual Seniorama takes place with food and fun at the Mohawk Bingo Palace from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

The event will include free entertainment provided by Marty Robertson, guest speakers, raffles and a trade show with information that is specific to the ages of the special guests.

"Although this event is in its 17th year, the Bingo Palace has hosted it for the past seven years," said Janique Odjick, marketing manager for the Bingo Palace. "We expect about 900 people to attend the event."

Participants will have the opportunity to meet State Sen. Darrel Aubertine and State Assemblywoman Senator Dede Scozzafava at the event.

Seniorama is open to all.

Trip planned for seniors to fair

PLATTSBURGH -- The Town of Plattsburgh is sponsoring a trip to the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction, Vt., on Aug. 26.

This day program is open first to any Town of Plattsburgh senior citizen and then to all other Clinton County elders if space is available.

The town will provide the school bus, with each senior paying $15, which includes the admission to the fair and cost of the ferry ride.

The bus will leave the May Currier Center parking lot on the Tom Miller Road at 10 a.m. The group will leave the fair at 4 p.m. and return to Plattsburgh.
