New vendors join Thursday Farmers Market
PLATTSBURGH -- Two additional vendors have joined the Thursday Plattsburgh Farmers Green Market, and the selection from all the vendors increases weekly. The market meets every Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 187 Broad Street. The new vendors are Kim & Gharan's Goodies, featuring ready-to-eat food, handmade necklaces and artwork. The senior Prime Time group from the Church of the Nazarene is bringing handmade artwork, including handmade paper and cards as well as food items. Other participants, selling products ranging from goat's milk soaps to grass-fed beef and fresh, free-range broilers, include Lake's End Cheeses, All Fired Up, the Conroy Farm, Clover Mead Farm, Northern Orchards and Rehoboth Homestead.

Quilt to benefit Historic Saranac Lake
SARANAC LAKE -- The Cabin Fever Quilters have chosen Historic Saranac Lake as this year's recipient of proceeds from the raffle of a handmade quilt. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the year at community events, and the winning ticket will be announced at this year's Sparkle Village Craft Fair at the Saranac Lake Town Hall. The quilt will soon be shown at the Post Office Pharmacy, where tickets will be available. It will also be featured at this year's Cabin Fever quilt show in August. The quilt features many of the historic buildings in Saranac Lake, including Union Depot, the Masonic Temple, the former Baptist Church, the Ice Palace, Little Red and the Saranac Laboratory. The Cabin Fever Quilters have been meeting twice a month for more than 20 years. Every two years, the group makes a quilt as a fundraiser for a local nonprofit organization. Historic Saranac Lake expressed thanks, in a press release, to "skilled quilters Nancy DePuy, Marilyn Gillespie, Judy Kratts, Valerie McGuoirk, Carolyn Moody, Coralie North, and Carole Wiesinger for their many hours of careful work."
King's Garden fundraiser set
TICONDEROGA -- The King's Garden will be the setting for the annual Garden Party fundraiser at Fort Ticonderoga at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The walled garden was originally designed for just such occasions by Marion Cruger Coffin, a famed garden designer of the early 20th century. Walled with rustic bricks and populated with sculptures and a reflecting pool, the King's Garden is celebrating its 10th year of restoration. This fundraiser helps to support the ongoing restoration and upkeep of the historic space. The evening will include refreshments, hors d'oeuvres and entertainment by The Loose Monkeys. A contest will choose winners in a number of categories, including Hat Most Representative of a Bygone Era, Most Dapper Gentleman and Most Environmentally Friendly Hat.
Committee Co-chairs Susan Darrin and Sharon Burstein have planned a silent auction that will also help with the fund-raising efforts. The items will be mainly garden-themed. Reservations are necessary. Call Victoria Sperry at 585-2121, ext. 24.
