Tammy Perrotte earns certification
PLATTSURGH -- Tammy Perrotte of RE/MAX North Country has been awarded the certified residential specialist designation by the Council of Residential Specialists, the largest not-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.
Realtors who receive the designation have completed advanced courses and have demonstrated professional expertise in the field of residential real estate. Fewer than 38,000 realtors nationwide have earned the credential.
Perotte is a member of the Clinton County Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and New York State Association of Realtors. She is the second vice president for the Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women's Organization and is the fundraising chairperson for the Christmas Bureau.
Hohmeyer's Lodge gains recognition
LAKE CLEAR -- Cathy and Ernest Hohmeyer's Adirondack Resort and Retreat at Hohmeyer's Lodge on Lake Clear has been honored by the National Geographic Traveler in the April issue as one of the top 150 places to stay in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
The list focused on properties with "location-inspired architecture, ambience and amenities, eco-stewardship and an ethic of giving back to the community."
The Hohmeyer's Lake Clear Lodge was awarded this accolade because of their extensive Adirondack heritage and loyalty in preserving the natural beauty of the Adirondacks. Some highlights of the property include hand hewn cathedral ceilings in certain lodgings, the Fireplace Rathskeller and the handcrafted Wine and Bier Cellar, the incorporation of local foods in the cuisine, eco-conscious resort policies, networked trails on property and their supportive role in the community through buying local, promoting local foods through the Weston A. Price Foundation, participating in local farmers markets and hosting events that encompass other local businesses, such as the annual Craft and Sustainable Festival and the All Adirondack Festival.
WPTZ wins broadcast awards
PLATTSBURGH -- WPTZ NewsChannel 5 was recently recognized for excellence in broadcasting by the New York State Associated Press, the New York State Broadcasters Association and the Ad Council, a national organization.
The New York State Associated Press presented first-place awards to WPTZ in four categories: Best Newscast, "NewsChannel 5 at 6PM"; Best Feature, "Most Haunted" by Erin Connors; General Excellence in Photojournalism, Jaime Brassard; and Best News Series, "Teen Suicide" by Stephanie Gorin.
The New York State Broadcasters Association honored the station with a first-place award in the Outstanding Commentary or Editorial category for its "Street Collection" editorial, delivered by WPTZ President and General Manager Paul Sands.
The Ad Council awarded its "Silver Bell" to WPTZ in recognition of the station's public-service efforts. The award is presented annually to "those media outlets that exemplify generosity and leadership in disseminating the Ad Council's public-service messages.
Contract awarded for prison work
ALBANY -- The New York State Office of General Services has awarded a number of contracts, including one in the North Country.
A construction contract to replace standing seam roofs at the Bare Hill Correctional Facility in Malone was bid by four firms. New Britain Roofing Co. Inc. of Lowman was the apparent low bidder, with a bid of $5,476,600, and will be awarded the contract.
Placid Boatworks donated canoe
SARANAC LAKE -- Jill Reymore, the Saranac waterkeeper, recently accepted a Placid Boatworks RapidFire canoe from Charlie Wilson and Joe Moore of Placid Boatworks.
The Lake Placid company donated the boat this spring to the Saranac Waterkeeper Program, a project funded by the Upper Saranac Lake Foundation to advocate for clean water quality and invasive-species management, monitor water quality and investigate potential water-pollution issues throughout the Upper Saranac Lake watershed.
"We're glad to be able to help such a worthy group that is doing the real nitty-gritty work to protect the water quality of such an incredible and storied Adirondack resource," Moore said in a news release.
Vector Marketing opens city office
PLATTSBURGH -- Vector Marketing has opened a new sales office in Plattsburgh, run by Branch Manager Jeffrey Mayo.
The office, located at 24 Power Dam Way, Suite 2-2, will be used for the recruitment and training of new sales representatives, as well as for team meetings where additional training and mentorship is provided.
Sales representatives market Vector's product, CUTCO Cutlery, through in-home presentations and use the sales office as home base.
Lake Champlain Homes expands
PLATTSBURGH -- Lake Champlain Homes of Plattsburgh has launched a new business and Web site.
Replacemycamp.com is targeting camp owners on the region's many lakes and wilderness areas who are interested in upgrading their seasonal camps to permanent, year-around residences.
Replacemycamp.com offers complete turn-key services, including asbestos survey, asbestos abatement, air-quality monitoring, camp demolition and disposal, site work, utility connections, well and/or septic system, site engineering, foundation, new home construction and project/site management services.
Local residents complete training
PLATTSBURGH -- The Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters said several local students have successfully completed a four-year apprenticeship training program and achieved full journeyman standing.
The students are Jesse Clemons of Peru, Travis A. Duquette of Morrisonville, Jonathon Matton of Mooers and Joshua Morse of Plattsburgh.
The self-funded program includes a minimum of 1,400 hours of on-the-job training and 160 hours of classroom training for each year of the four-year curriculum. The students earn wages and qualify for health insurance and retirement plans while attending school at no educational costs to themselves.
