— Town of Plattsburgh summer program ongoing
PLATTSBURGH -- The Town of Plattsburgh's free Sport Fun Camps have begun and will be held at two Town of Plattsburgh recreation parks for the next five weeks: Everest Rabideau Park in Cumberland Head from 9 to 11 a.m. and at East Morrisonville Recreation Park from noon to 2 p.m. Each week will feature a different activity. Pre-registration is not necessary, and all equipment will be provided. For more information, call 562-6860.
Girl Scouts seek instrument donations
BEEKMANTOWN -- The Girl Scouts of Beekmantown and West Chazy are collecting used musical instruments to benefit the Beekmantown Central School music and band programs as part of a nationwide Girl Scout community service project called "Mission Possible." For more information, call 563-1560. Or instruments can be dropped off at the Girl Scout Northeastern New York office located at 323 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh.
First Chazy story time to feature spiders, bugs, toads
CHAZY -- Children from pre-school to grade 6 may sign up now for the "Catch the Reading Bug" summer reading program at Chazy Public Library, which goes on through July and August. The program will kick off at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, with "Spiders, Bugs, and Toads... Oh, My!" a program of stories told by storyteller Karen Pillsworth at the library. To register, call 846-7676. There will be story times at the library at 4 p.m. Thursdays on July 17, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21, and also a wind-up party at a date to be announced.
Reading program to feature crafts, activities
SARANAC LAKE -- The Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main Street, will host its Children's Summer Reading Program on Wednesday, July 9, 16, and 23 from 10 a.m. until noon in the Thomas B. Cantwell Community Room. Children will be organized in preschool, first and second, and third and fourth grade groups. "Catch the Reading Bug!" is the theme that will tie together the stories, craft projects, activities and special guests. On July 9, Leah Filo, biologist from the Wild Center, will present a program about insects. Call 891-4190 for more information.
