Alzheimer's group to gather Wednesday in Malone
MALONE -- The Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center offers a monthly support group for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. The next meeting is from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Third Age Adult Day Center, 24 Fourth St., Suite 7, Malone (on the Alice Hyde Medical Center campus). High Peaks Hospice to raise funds with coupon books
PORT HENRY -- The 2008-09 High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care $ave Big coupon booklet will be available July 1. Twenty-eight Essex County businesses offer significant savings through the coupons found in the booklet, according to a news release from High Peaks Hospice, which includes all of Essex County east and south of the Tri-Lakes area. It contains cultural and entertainment coupons, others for shopping, sporting goods, auto services, health and wellness, and restaurants. The proceeds from sale of the $ave Big booklets and other fundraising efforts enable High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care to continue to provide the best possible end of life care and support to patients and their loved ones. LaPorte to speak at dementia workshop
ELIZABETHTOWN -- The Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center will hold a free educational workshop on Wednesday, July 9, from noon to 1 p.m. in the conference room at Horace Nye Nursing Home, Park Street, Elizabethtown. Any person providing care to an individual with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia is invited to attend. Guest speaker, Kenna LaPorte, will explain what Alzheimer's disease is and talk about some new updates in the field. For more information, call 564-3370 or 564-3377.
Busy Bee's to celebrate summer with luau
BEEKMANTOWN -- The Beekmantown Busy Bee's Senior Club will not have a July meeting. A luau picnic will be held Thursday, July 10, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on the Spellman Road in Beekmantown. There will be games and social hour starting at 2:30 p.m. with dinner at 5:30. The club's dinner-theater event will be July 24 in Lake George. The next meeting will be Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. For more information, call Helen at 563-6975.
Race Day to raise funds for Senior Council
PLATTSBURGH -- The Senior Citizens Council Fundraising Committee has dreamed up a new fundraiser -- Senior & Family Race Day is set for Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Airborne Raceway, 70 Broderick Road, Plattsburgh. The event, open to the public, will include games and activities for all ages, a silent auction, and race-car rides for the adults and children for $10 each. Entertainment will be provided by the Castaways from noon to 2 p.m., and the concession stand will be open. There will be many vendors there to educate the community on the senior services available and the Classic Cruisers will show off their cars in the evening. Cost will be $6 for adults and $4 for kids and seniors. Advance tickets are available at a discount, $5 for adults and $3 for kids and seniors, at the following locations: Senior Citizens Council, 5139 North Catherine St., Plattsburgh, and Meadowbrook Healthcare, 154 Prospect Ave., Plattsburgh.
