Westport needs items for time capsule
WESTPORT — The Westport Quadricentennial Committee is looking for items to be placed in a time capsule as part of Westport's Quadricentennial Commemoration.
Plans are under way to "bury" the time capsule on the day of the Westport Heritage Festival on Aug. 8.
The committee would like to have items in the capsule that represent the town as it is today, such as lists of those involved in the civic and volunteer organizations; photos of the town government and town employees, the Fire Department and Emergency Squad; the Westport Central School 2009 yearbook; newspapers dated the day the capsule is buried; a letter to future Westport residents and a list of all items placed in the capsule.
The committee already has coins from the 1959 Champlain celebration, the new 2009 medal, one of the small boat 400th flags, a 400th pin, an astrolabe key ring, a Champlain Monuments calendar and the 2009 Chazy Westport Telephone directory.
To help gather items to be placed in the capsule or to make suggestions for other inclusions, contact Dan Connell at 962-4419 or Nancy Decker at 962-4805.
