Band with local ties to appear on Conan'

WESTPORT -- A band that includes Ben Goldwasser, a 2001 graduate of Westport Central School, will appear on "The Conan O'Brien Show" airing at 12:30 a.m. Friday on WPTZ.

Since appearing on "Late Night With David Letterman" in January, MGMT has been touring Europe and released the album "Oracular Spectacular" on the Columbia label.

The group plans to tour Europe again this summer and Japan in August, opening for Beck and Radiohead.

MGMT is also scheduled to appear in six music festivals, including Lollapalooza in Chicago Aug. 1 to 3.

Ben is the son of David Goldwasser and Rachel Hunter.

The November 2007 issue of Rolling Stone magazine listed MGMT as one of 10 new artists to watch.

Beekmantown candidates forum set

BEEKMANTOWN -- The Beekmantown Teachers Association will sponsor a Meet the Candidates Forum with people seeking seats on the School Board.

The forum will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the High School auditorium. Three candidates are running for two available positions.
